Daniil Medvedev won 19 of his opening 22 matches this year, getting back into the Top 10. He couldn’t match that form on clay and grass.

Rublev Chasing a Return to the Top 10

Andrey Rublev hasn’t been able to reclaim his Top 10 spot this year, beaten in three semi-finals and losing the Barcelona Open final.

He won the title in Bastad but early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati saw him drop out of the Top 20 for the first time since January 2020. He suffered a 4 sets defeat to Daniel Merida Aguilar in the US Open second round.

The 28-year-old beat Rinky Hijikata 6-3 6-3 in Hangzhou before needing almost three hours to get past Hugo Gaston 6-7 7-6 6-1. He had five set points in the opening set after leading 6-1 in the the break.

Rublev had no issues in the semi-finals, cruising past Kyrian Jacquet 7-6 6-1 in 81 minutes. He won 68% of his 2nd serves and didn’t give up a break point.
